The Veterinary Nutrition Center

The University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center provides nutrition consultation services for veterinarians on obesity management, homemade diet formulation, critical care nutrition, and commercial diet recommendations for dogs and cats with various health or metabolic problems.

The Veterinary Nutrition Center is staffed by veterinarians who are board certified by the American College of Veterinary Nutrition. They have years of clinical experience and have made noteworthy advances in the field of companion animal nutrition.

Our goal is to optimize the health of companion animals during wellness and disease through nutrition consultation with veterinarians and pet owners. We continue to advance the field of small animal nutrition through teaching, research, and continuing education.

Pet Food Orders

If your pet has been prescribed a diet by a clinical service within the Veterinary Medical Center, you may use the following links to place an online order with home delivery:

  • PURINA diets can be ordered online via https://proplanvetdirect.com. 
    • Please use the veterinary email UTVNS@utk.edu to ensure we can authorize the prescription.
  • ROYAL CANIN and HILL'S diets can be ordered online via https://tiny.utk.edu/petfoodorder.

  • BLUE BUFFALO diets can be ordered online via www.BLUEVet.com​.
    • ​Please use the veterinary email UTVNS@utk.edu to ensure we can authorize the prescription.

PLEASE NOTE: Therapeutic diet orders are only approved for pets that are active patients of the Veterinary Medical Center with a valid food prescription within our medical record system. If your order is denied, please contact the clinical service that made the diet recommendation.
