Overview

Dr. Liza Köster graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and obtained both a Honours and Masters degrees in Small Animal Internal Medicine. She completed residency training in both Small Animal Internal Medicine (University of Pretoria) and later Cardiology (University of Glasgow) and was board certified in both disciplines by the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is a recognized specialist (EBVS). Her academic career has included clinical teaching positions at the Veterinary Teaching Hospitals of the University of Sydney, Pretoria, and Glasgow and a teaching position at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine before taking a position at UTCVM. Her special interests include biomarkers in critical illness and cardiomyopathies and pulmonary hypertension.

Research Focus

Dr. Köster's research focuses on advancing the field of echocardiographic predictors of disease severity

Clinical Focus

As a resident and clinical student supervisor, Dr. Köster oversees clinical cases managed in the Cardiology service and provides referring clinicians diagnostics to help better manage their patients with heart disease
