Overview

Dr. Agricola Odoi is a Professor of Epidemiology and Assistant Dean for Research and Graduate Studies with expertise in spatial and quantitative epidemiology. His research focuses on identifying the influence of place of residence on the health of the population so as to provide information to guide health planning and policy decisions. He has published extensively and has a track record of national and international research collaborations. He serves in editorial boards of several internationally recognized peer reviewed journals and as a grant reviewer for federal and non-federal agencies in the United States, Canada, and The Netherlands. Before joining the University of Tennessee, Dr. Odoi taught epidemiology, public health, and veterinary preventive medicine at Makerere University (Uganda). He also served as a Public Health epidemiologist, a Health Information Analyst, and an Information Management Analyst with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care (Canada).

Research Focus

Application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and spatial epidemiology in health research and practice; Health Disparities; Impact of place on health outcomes and access to health services.

Teaching Focus

Dr. Odoi primarily teaches graduate-level epidemiology courses, including: Descriptive and Applied Epidemiology, GIS and Geographical Epidemiology, and Advanced Epidemiology (cross listed as a level B statistics course).

Outreach Focus

International collaborative research engagement; continuing education in the application of Geographical Information Systems and Epidemiology in addressing health problems in both animals and humans.
