Marc Caldwell, DVM, PhD, DACVIM

Overview

Dr. Caldwell focuses his research efforts in the area of livestock infectious diseases, particularly bovine respiratory disease or “shipping fever”. He has broad clinical interests beyond this major focus that also includes lameness in food animals, herd disease or outbreak investigation, and pain management in food animals. He has developed a Mannheimia haemolytica and Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus infection models that replicate the clinical aspects of bovine respiratory disease and used this model to study shifts in the nasal commensal population of weaned calves, respiratory disease therapeutics, clinical illness behavior in cattle, and improved respiratory diagnostics. In addition, through his role as a food animal field service veterinarian he provided direct support for livestock producers and veterinarians in the state of Tennessee through on-farm care of livestock and delivery up-to-date continuing education and advice to support the day to day management of their farms.
