DEPARTMENTAL MISSION

To educate veterinary students and graduate veterinarians for the needs of pets while providing advanced compassionate patient care and generating new knowledge to improve pet health through clinical research.

 

DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVES 

Provide basic education and clinical training for students in the DVM program.

  • Train post DVM’s in the various clinical specialties.
  • Provide veterinary practitioners with continuing education to improve their clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Be a consultation resource of current veterinary knowledge for clients and practicing veterinarians.
  • Maintain a comprehensive, modern hospital that can provide advanced diagnostics and patient care.
  • Conduct clinical research to generate new knowledge that will lead to improved care of pet animals.
  • Maintain a faculty and staff who are scientifically advanced, motivated for discovery while being compassionate to the needs of our constituents.

 

Personnel in the department include 40 tenure and clinical track faculty, all of whom are boarded in one or more clinical specialties and most have degrees beyond the DVM. The faculty are very involved in numerous professional veterinary organizations and hold prestigious positions as officers and directors. Because of the high quality work done by the faculty of the department, many have received national awards in recent years. Some of these numerous awards include: Distinguished Alumnus Awards, AVMA National Veterinarian of the Year Award, Chancellor’s Awards for Teaching and Outstanding Performance, Fulbright Scholarships, and Distinguished Teacher Awards. ​
