Approximately 11,000 imaging studies are performed annually within the UTCVM Diagnostic Imaging service. The majority of patients are dogs, cats, horses and farm animals. A large number of exotic and zoo animals are also evaluated.

Our Diagnostic Imaging service supports patients of the Veterinary Medical Center as well as outpatient imaging to referring veterinarians for select advanced imaging (see Veterinary Imaging Services section). We have two dedicated small animal and avian/exotic digital radiology machines, fluoroscopy suites and a dedicated large animal radiology suite. We also have a dedicated ultrasound suite and a mobile unit for large animal barn calls. CT, MRI and Nuclear Medicine all have their own suites in our newly constructed expansion.

All imaging patients are referred to Diagnostic Imaging by a clinical service within the Veterinary Medical Center (e.g., neurology/neurosurgery, internal medicine and cardiology). The clinician on the service will explain the results of the imaging examination to the client. Preliminary results for in-patient cases will be available the day of the exam.
