25 years ago, American Farriers Journal created National Farriers Week “to honor farriers who pay attention to detail, approach their work in a professional manner, seek to improve their skills, are thoughtful toward clients, and take great pride in doing what’s in the best interest of the horse.” National Farriers week is celebrated the second week of July. This year it is held July 9 – 15.
Farriers play a vital role in keeping horses healthy by providing essential hoof care. UTCVM’s Farrier in Residence, Jeremy Davis, is a Certified Journeyman Farrier and holds a Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers (Dip WCF). He works closely with our equine rehabilitation specialists and surgeons. The team routinely treats horses with the following conditions:
• chronic laminitis
• navicular syndrome
• quarter cracks
• white line disease
• angular/flexural limb deformities
Davis supervises the Podiatry Center in the Equine Performance and Rehabilitation Center in the Charles and Julie Wharton Large Animal Hospital at the UT College of Veterinary Medicine.
