VOLVet â€“ This portal provides detailed pre-referral recommendations, cost estimates, and client resources in the Referral Guide. The quarterly VOLVet Newsletters are also available to referring veterinarians with updates on the Veterinary Medical Center, faculty and staff, and educational resources. If your clinic has an existing VOLVet Portal account, you do not need to register again. Due to the potential health risk to UTCVM personnel, primate samples are only accepted with prior approval and instruction from American Zoological Association (AZA)-accredited institutions. Without prior approval or proper labeling and packaging, samples will be destroyed. Call the specific laboratory before submitting any non-human primate samples. The only UTCVM diagnostic labs currently accepting non-human primate samples are Anatomic Pathology (Biopsy & Necropsy), Bacteriology/Mycology, Clinical Pathology, and Parasitology.

Diagnostic Services Research and Development

UTCVM Diagnostic Laboratory Services support research activities. Availability of anatomic pathology (biopsy, necropsy) interpretation services depend on pathology faculty availability and interest. Histology processing of tissues (without pathologist’s interpretation) and other testing services are available on a fee-for-service basis; logistics and turn-around-time may vary depending on individual project needs and timelines and must be approved by the relevant Laboratory Director. All inquiries about diagnostic laboratory testing research support should be directed to Dr. Dodd Sledge, Director of Diagnostic Laboratory Services, at dsledge3@utk.edu or 865-974-2761. Please contact us as far in advance as possible when planning a research project.
