Lab equipment

While the situation with COVID-19 remains fluid, our diagnostic laboratory services and courier service continue operation and are striving to maintain routine business hours of operation to meet your needs and those of your patients. However, due to limited depth of staffing and health concerns, some laboratories are adjusting schedules on a day-to-day basis. We encourage you to call prior to submitting samples as supply chain interruptions may also create periodic delays. We will do our best to meet your needs and those of your patients. Please stay safe and well during this crisis.

Due to the potential health risk to UTCVM personnel, primate samples are only accepted with prior approval and instruction. Without prior approval or proper packaging, samples will be destroyed. Call the specific lab prior to submitting

The UTCVM Diagnostic Laboratories stand ready to provide you the highest quality diagnostic services to ensure the health of your patients. Our diagnostic team is dedicated to meeting your needs in a timely and collegial manner. We appreciate your understanding and patience while we navigate these challenges.

Diagnostic Services Research and Development

UTCVM Diagnostic Laboratory Services support research activities. Availability of anatomic pathology (biopsy, necropsy) interpretation services depend on pathology faculty availability and interest. Histology processing of tissues (without pathologist’s interpretation) and other testing services are available on a fee-for-service basis; logistics and turn-around-time may vary depending on individual project needs and timelines and must be approved by the relevant Laboratory Director. All inquiries about diagnostic laboratory testing research support should be directed to Dr. Bente Flatland, Director of Diagnostic Laboratory Services, at bflatlan@utk.edu or (865) 974-5570. Please contact us as far in advance as possible when planning a research project.
