Clinicians at the UT College of Veterinary Medicine are recruiting cats with chronic gastrointestinal symptoms for a clinical trial. If your cat has had any of the following for 3 or more weeks, it may be eligible: vomiting, diarrhea, soft stool, and/or weight loss.

The purpose of the study is to assess the use of diet in the management of cats with chronic gastrointestinal signs.

Participants must be willing to feed their cat a commercial diet (nutritionally balanced and produced by a reputable manufacturer within the United States) for the entire study period (12 weeks). During this time participants will be asked to complete daily surveys (less than 5 minutes). In addition to the initial study enrollment, two follow-up visits at weeks four and twelve to the veterinary school’s Internal Medicine Service are required.

Cats enrolled in the study will receive a complimentary physical exam, complete blood count, chemistry, T4, FeLV/FIV antigen test, heartworm testing, urinalysis, gastrointestinal blood panel, and abdominal x-rays and ultrasound. In addition, participants will receive a dry kibble diet for the duration of the study at no cost.
