The Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) has highlighted Dr. Nicole Szafranski in its monthly newsletter, Tennessee Tidbits. Szafranski is a member of the TVMA Class of 2022 Power of Ten Leadership Academy, a program offered to young veterinarians who have graduated within the last 10 to 15 years. It’s an opportunity to introduce them to the benefits of organized medicine and provide them with continuing education that focuses on leadership.

Dr. Szafranski graduated from the UT College of Veterinary Medicine in 2020 and is the college’s first Zoetis veterinary parasitology resident through the National Center for Veterinary Parasitology. She is also pursuing a PhD through the College of Comparative and Experimental Medicine; her research focuses on Toxoplasma gondii in waterfowl.

Dr. Szafranski’s research interests include zoonotic parasites and the diagnosis and management of parasitic diseases in wildlife populations and domestic animals. When she is not perusing parasites, she enjoys collecting antique veterinary and life science books, gardening, and exploring all that eastern Tennessee has to offer.
