Financial Policy

Thank you for choosing the UT Veterinary Medical Center. We make every effort to provide reasonable costs for services but modern veterinary care can be costly. We do not have the funds to provide free or low-cost care. Our facility is regulated by the state “fair competition” clause and thus our fees are comparable to those of regional private specialty clinics. Fees charged for our services support the hospital operations whereas funding from the State of Tennessee supports teaching.

Prior to the patient’s visit to UT Veterinary Medical Center, the veterinarian can contact our Referral Coordinator for an estimate. After the initial examination, the client is provided an estimate of the approximate cost for treatment. This estimate reflects only the initial diagnostic and treatment plan and is subject to change based on the client’s decisions or changes in the patient’s condition. Updated estimates are provided throughout the stay.

Payment is required from clients at the time of service. If a patient is hospitalized, one-half of the estimate is due prior to services being provided with final payment due in full when the patient is discharged. Treatment is always determined by the client’s decisions with consideration of their financial resources and we are happy to assist with any questions they may have. Client always have the right to decline any or all treatment suggested for their animals.

If a client has insurance, information needs to be provided when the appointment is scheduled and at the time of admission. Owners are responsible for payment to our hospital at the time of service and we will submit a claim on their behalf for reimbursement. We do not accept direct payment from insurance companies.

Referring veterinarians are billed monthly with payment expected upon receipt of the statement. We accept cash, checks, MasterCard, VISA, Discover, American Express and CareCredit (for client patients).

Please review our Payment Policy for additional details and information on CareCredit.

Feel free to contact us if we can be of assistance in any way.
