The UT Veterinary Medical Center is unable to accept wild rabbits at this time due to the risk of highly contagious Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV).

Our Zoological Companion Animal Service in the Avian, Exotic Animal and Zoological Medicine Hospital is dedicated to the care of exotic and zoological species including pet birds and backyard poultry, ferrets, rabbits, and rodents (e.g. guinea pigs, hamsters, chinchillas, rats), and reptiles, as well as other pet exotic animal species. Prior to referring primates, review the Primate Referral Guidelines.

The service includes veterinarians board-certified by the American College of Zoological Medicine. We work closely with other specialists in the Veterinary Medical Center to provide the highest level of care possible for all our patients. In addition to providing advanced monitoring and hospitalization for critical patients, we also are equipped to perform advanced diagnostic and surgical procedures for all exotic and zoological species. The UTCVM diagnostic laboratories have an international reputation for excellence and expertise in avian and exotic species laboratory testing.
