The UTCVM Veterinary Obesity Center is staffed by world experts in pet obesity. Dr. Angela Rollins and Dr. Maryanne Murphy are Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionists with numerous publications in the fields of nutrition and obesity. The Center’s coordinator, Ms. Tammy Moyers, is a highly experienced veterinary technician with a specialty certification in nutrition.


Meet our Staff

Angela Rollins, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Nutrition)

Dr. Rollins

Dr. Angela Witzel Rollins is a Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionist® and Clinical Professor at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee in 2000. She then attained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and PhD in Comparative and Experimental Medicine from the University of Tennessee in 2004 and 2009, respectively. She also completed her nutrition residency training at Tennessee while earning her PhD. Dr. Rollins is currently a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Nutrition) and former president of the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition and the American College of Veterinary Nutrition. She has authored numerous research publications in the field of animal nutrition with a primary research focus on companion animal obesity physiology, treatment and prevention.

Maryanne Murphy, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Nutrition)

Dr. Maryanne Murphy is a Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionist® and Clinical Associate Professor of Nutrition at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Murphy received her dual BS in animal sciences and biological sciences from Rutgers University in 2004 and her DVM from Iowa State University in 2008. She completed a rotating general medicine and surgery internship at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists in New York City in 2009. Both Dr. Murphy’s clinical nutrition residency and PhD were completed at the University of Tennessee, and she achieved board certification in 2013. The focus of Dr. Murphy’s dissertation research was energy metabolism and satiety in lean and obese dogs. After working as a clinical nutritionist at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, NJ for a few years, she returned to the University of Tennessee in 2016. Dr. Murphy is currently a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Nutrition) and former president of both the American College of Veterinary Nutrition and the Nutrition Specialty of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Dr. Murphy’s major professional interests include obesity prevention and management and veterinary nutrition education.

Tammy Moyers, LVMT, VTS (NUTRITION)

Ms. Moyers

Tammy Moyers, graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in 1991 with her associate degree of applied science in Veterinary Technology, she received her VTS(Nutrition) certification in 2014. Tammy has been a veterinary nurse at UTCVM since 1996 and her special interests include obesity and weight management.
